International Observation Mission about tragic events in Minsk on April 11

Yesterday on April 11, 2011 a bomb exploded in Minsk at Oktyabrskaya subway station, resulting in more than 10 killed and over 100 wounded.
International Observation Mission brings its sincere condolences to victims’ families and all those injured.

Human rights activist Aleh Vouchak arrested

Vouchak is reported to have been accused of disorderly conduct. He is to be tried on Monday.

Human rights defender Aleh Vouchak was detained in the street at 3:35 pm.

Vouchak’s friends posted on Facebook a policeman came to the activist to check his ID. The human rights defender informed he was being held in the Maskouski district police department, “Nasha Niva” newspaper informs.

Cassation appeal on Ales Bialiatski's case to be considered on 24 January

The cassation appeal of Ales Bialiatski against the verdict of the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk will be considered by the panel of judges of the Minsk City Court on 24 January. The hearings begin on 10 a.m.

OSCE media freedom representative protests jailing of journalist in Minsk

VIENNA, 11 January 2012 – The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović, condemned today the sentencing of Ales Barazenka, an independent Belarusian cameraman, to 11 days’ imprisonment for "participating in an unsanctioned event".
