Милиция заявляет о подозрении задержанных правозащитников в причастности к теракту

19 апреля, в Минске были задержаны правозащитник Павел Левинов, член Белорусского Хельсинкского Комитета, Олег Борщевский, независимый журналист, Ольга Карач, лидер организации «Наш дом» и Валерий Щукин, журналист и правозащитник. На данный момент, по словам сотрудников милиции, Павел Левинов задержан на 10 суток по подозрению в причастности к теракту 11 апреля.

The city courtof Orsha settledthe case of “disorderly conduct” in which Alexander Lashmankin was accused – a Russian journalist, editor of the news agency “Freedom”, which received official accreditation from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The judge Ina Kokhav found the arguments of the charges convincing enough and sentenced him to three days of administrative arrest. The jailed journalist went onhunger strike.

Head of the International Observation Mission is being deported from Belarus

Today, on March 17th, at 11 a.m. Andrey Yurov, a famous human rights defender, Head of the International Observation Mission of the Committee on International Control over the Situation with Human Rights in Belarus was released from custody in the Soviet district police department of Minsk. He spent the whole night there after his detention in a flat in Minsk where Andrey often stays.

Head of the International Observation Mission is detained in Minsk

Mr. Andrey Yurov, a prominent human rights activist and citizen of the Russian Federation, is detained in Minsk. According to the police, he is officially banned from entering the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Currently, Mr. Yurov is held at the police department of the Soviet District of Minsk. His local and international colleagues fear that the authorities of the Republic of Belarus may deport the human rights defender.

Belarus: the first criminal trial for December 19th case

Yesterday, on February 17th, in Minsk the first criminal trial on the case of participation in the riots at the Independence Square on December 19th took place. According to paragraph 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code, the penalty for this deed can range from three to eight years of imprisonment. The trial of the accused Vasily Parfenkov passed in a record quick time – within one day the court considered the evidence, listened to the arguments of the prosecution and defense and awarded a sentence (four years in penal colony).

Raman Kisliak applies against inclusion in lawbreakers' database

Тhe unlawful inclusion of the human rights defender in this database by the police became the reason for his detention and subsequent fingerprinting on 8 November.

In the appeal, filed by Raman Kisliak t the head of the Leninski District Police Department of Brest, it is stated that the inclusion him in the database of lawbreakers by officers of the Leninski DPD is unlawful, as far as they have neither addressed him in connection with the procedure of dactylography nor presented him any administrative charges lately.

Strasbourg, 04.10.2012 – In a statement adopted today in Strasbourg, the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) announced its unanimous decision to support the proposal by Andres Herkel (Estonia, EPP/CD), rapporteur on the situation in Belarus, to nominate Ales Bialiatski – the human rights defender sentenced on 24 November 2011 to four and a half years’ imprisonment – for the 2013 PACE Human Rights Prize.
