Statement No.7 “On disproportionate actions of the authorities of the Republic of Belarus in relation to the participants of the peaceful action on 22 June 2011 and journalists covering this event”

Acting on behalf of the Committee on International Control over the Situation with Human Rights in Belarus (CIC), which unites representatives of national and international human rights organizations from the OSCE countries,
monitoring the overall situation with the observance of fundamental human rights in the Republic of Belarus, as well as the issues of realization of freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, journalists’ protection and ensuring their professional activities;

International Observation Mission in Belarus: six months of work in the country

The International Observation Mission in Belarus was established on December 27th, 2010 by the decision of the Committee on International Control over the Situation with Human Rights in Belarus. In fact, after the closure of the OSCE office in Belarus, the Mission turned out to be the only international actor carrying out permanent monitoring of the human rights situation in the country.

UN human rights office calls on Belarus to free opposition leaders

Following the release last week of two opposition leaders from prison in Belarus, the UN human rights office today called on the country’s authorities to begin dialogue with the opposition and to unconditionally release all prisoners who are serving sentences for exercising their fundamental human rights.

Brussels, 29 March 2012. Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle today launched the European Dialogue on Modernisation with Belarusian society at a meeting in Brussels with representatives of Belarusian civil society and political opposition. This follows the conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council last week welcoming the idea of launching such a dialogue with the Belarusian society.

Belarusian government appeals individual communications of Belarusian citizens at UN

The Belarusian authorities disagree with the registration of 56 individual communications of Belarusian citizens at the UN Human Rights Committee.
