Analytical review No. 1-1b “Interference in the Work of Human Rights Organizations and Initiatives in Belarus from January 12th to March 8th, 2011”

The International Observation Mission has prepared an analytical review about the situation with human rights defenders and human rights organizations in the Republic of Belarus from January, 12 to March, 8, 2011.

This analytical review is a sequel to the work presented in the Analytical review №1-1 “Interference in the work of Human Rights organizations and initiatives in Belarus December 2010 – January 2011”, published earlier.

Human rights activists from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus are detained in Minsk. Two Russians Must Leave Belarus in 24 Hours

4 May 2011--Today at approximately 18.30pm [Minsk], officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus have thwarted the presentation of the an independent report prepared by an independent expert group led by Mr Neil Jarman, the Special Rapporteur of the Committee on International Control over the Human Rights Situation in Belarus. The objectives of the report were limited to an impartial assessment of the events which took place on 19 December 2010, including civic protests on Independence Square, ensuing arrests and detentions, without analysis of the implementation and results of the Presidential elections.

Human Rights defenders are expulted from the country right from court premises

Today, on 28 April, after detention in the court and transportation to city-district department of militia, Ivan Kondratenko, representative of the International Observation Mission (IOM) was given an order about leaving the territory of the Republic of Belarus within 24 hours. It seems that expulsion of the human rights defenders and ban for their entry to the country becomes a norm for Belarusian Government.

Police says detained human rights activists are suspected of their involvement in the terrorist attack

On April 19, human rights activist Pavel Levinov, the Belarusian Helsinki Committee (BHC) member, Oleg Borshchevsky, independent journalist, Olga Karach, “Our Home” organization leader, and Valeriy Shchukin, journalist and human rights activist, were detained in Minsk. Cases of detainees will be treated tomorrow at 10.00 in the Frunzensky district court of Minsk.
